Oliver Kessing
Oliver Owen Kessing (December 6, 1890 - January 31, 1963) was the third and last commissioner of the All-America Football Conference. Kessing was born in Greensburg, Indiana. He attended the Naval Academy, where he played football and baseball. He also wrestled and boxed. He served in World War II. He was named Deputy Commissioner of the AAFC on March 19, 1947. The AAFC folded after the 1949 season.
Naval Career
Commander Oliver Owen Kessing eventually was the first commanding officer of the Navy Pre-flight School for that reason Kessing Pool on University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's campus is named after him.[1]
Personal Life
Oliver Owen Kessing was born on December 6, 1890 to Edward A Kessing and Rosa Moffett in Greensburg, Indiana. On 21 August 1918 he married Jane Moffett Thompson. He and Jane had three sons: Oliver Owen, Jr. (Bud), Thomas Edward, and Jonas Warren.
