Oldsmobile Straight-8 engine
Oldsmobile produced a "multicylinder" straight-8 engine in the 1930s. This was the company's top engine choice from 1937 until the 1949 introduction of the Rocket V8.
257.1
The only displacement offered for the Oldsmobile straight-8 was 257 cubic inches (4.2 L). It was a conventional side-valve engine with 110 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 210 lb ft of torque at 2000 rpm. Although only used for a short period of time in the olds lineup, the engine received a slight bump in compression from 6.50 to 7. The result was a 115 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 218 lb ft of torque at an unmoved 2000 rpm.
