Norte Vista High School is a high school in Riverside, California, part of the Alvord Unified School District, and the home of the Norte Vista Braves.

History

Norte Vista (or Novi) started as a junior high school, named Arlington Junior High, from 1958-1961. The first graduating class was in 1964.

In 2011, seven goats were stolen from the school's FFA program. It is the third time the goats have been stolen in five years.[1]

In 2015, Norte Vista was awarded the Gold Ribbon Award, which temporarily replaces the California Distinguished schools program. The gold ribbon award recognizes the few schools that demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding test scores. [2]

International Baccalaureate

The first class of students from Norte Vista High School who graduated from the International Baccalaureate program did so in 2010. Since the addition of this respected and rigorous academic program, there has been a shift in the culture of education at this high school. The IB program at Norte Vista is different from those at other schools because of the emphasis the program puts on mentoring and personal relationships, giving back to the community, and pushing the students to constantly set the bar higher than what they expect. Because of this, many students at Norte Vista have been able to go to college and succeed there that normally would not have.

Some awards that the IBNV program has received include:

-2014 Riverside County Champions on the Rise

-2012 California Association of World Schools Spotlight School

-IB Model Program

Fine and Performing Arts

Norte Vista High School has a drama program, an art program, a choir program, and a band program.

Sports

Norte Vista High School is a member of the California Interscholastic Federation River Valley League. Sports offered include tennis, volleyball, cheer-leading, cross country, football, soccer, wrestling, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, softball, swimming and water polo, and track and field.
