Nicholas A. Mattiello (born 1963) is an American politician and Democratic member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing the 15th District since 2007. He currently serves as the Speaker of the Rhode Island House of Representatives since March 25, 2014.[1] Mattiello is a close friend and ally of former Speaker William Murphy, a conservative Democrat from West Warwick.[2]
Political Positions
Endorsed by Right to Life and the NRA, Mattiello holds a range of conservative views that have attracted criticism from liberals.[3] In 2011, he voted for Rhode Island's controversial voter ID law.[4] Despite his generally conservative profile, he voted for marriage equality in 2013.[5]
