NetMeds Marketplace Ltd. (netmeds.com) is an online pharmacy based in Chennai, India, Netmeds provides online ordering and mail delivery of prescription and non-prescription medications.
Overview
Consumers place their orders online and receive their medications by mail at home. Until Netmeds and other Indian online pharmacies began operation in 2015, Indians often had to travel to nearby brick-and-mortar pharmacies to purchase their medications.
The online sale of drugs by pharmacies is new and somewhat controversial in India, because legislation controlling drugs is the same for both online and brick and mortar pharmacies.[1]
History
In 2015, the Pradeep Dadha Group of Companies,established Netmeds.com.[2] MAPE Advisory Group, a financial services firm, and Orbimed, a private equity firm, have invested in the privately owned pharmacy.[3] [4]
In 2016, Netmeds was honoured with a NDTV Unicorn Startup Award, recognizing it as one of India's most "path-breaking and disruptive start-up" companies. [5] [6]
Separately, the pharmacy's parent company sells drugs wholesale to Indian pharmacies, and operates retail pharmacies in Tamil Nadu.[7]
Management
Pradeep Dadha , founder, heads the company with co-founder Bruce Schwack.[8] Dadha has had experience leading his family's long-time pharmacy business in India.[9][10]
