Narendra Chanchal
Narendra Chanchal is an Indian singer who specialises in Punjabi bhentein.
Personal life
Narendra Chanchal was born to a religious Punjabi family in Namak Mandi, Amritsar. Hence since childhood he grew up in religious atmosphere which inspired him to start singing bhajans and aartis. He took music lessons from Sri Prem Tikha, Amritsar.[1]
Career
He tried to sing for Bollywood Movies but lost his voice, after regaining his voice back after couple of years Chanchal sang his first Bollywood song Beshak mandir masjid todo for Bobby. Chanchal won the 1973 Filmfare Best Male Playback Award for this song as well as a "Bobby Award". Later in life he was awarded the "Raj Kapoor Memorial Award." He was also made an honorary citizen of the US state of Georgia.
Narendra Chanchal has released the book Midnight Singer which narrates his life, struggles and hardships he had to face, to achieve what he has achieved today, what he thinks about Mata Rani and what is his dreams and aim yet to achieve. He comes to katra (Vaishno Devi) every year on 29 December and performs on the 31st night.
