Murder Prevention was a British police drama inspired by the real-life Homicide Prevention Unit within the Metropolitan Police. It was produced for Five by World Productions who previously produced the television series The Cops.[1] The series consisted of three two-part stories.[2] Later repeats edited the two-parters so that they were screened as three longer running episodes.[3]
According to creator Declan Croghan, "Murder Prevention is the first pre-crime drama ever, anywhere."[1]
Overview
The series followed the work of the fictitious Murder Prevention Unit (MPU) as they attempted to prevent murders from taking place. By using modern scientific techniques and basic police instinct, the unit's aim was to gather enough evidence of intent to kill in order to arrest potential murderers.[1]
