The Municipio I, is an administrative subdivision of the city of Rome. It is the center of the municipality of Rome. It was firstly created by Rome's City Council on 19 January 2001 and it has a president who is elected during the mayoral elections.
Since 11 March 2013 its borders were modified and was expanded with the incorporation between Municipio I and Municipio XVII.[1] Municipio I is home to the Rioni of Rome, which are the city's historic districts.

The localities of Prati, Delle Vittorie and Eroi were part of the former Municipio XVII until 2013.
The territory includes the following Rioni: R.I Monti, R.II Trevi, R.III Colonna, R.IV Campo Marzio, R.V Ponte, R.VI Parione, R.VII Regola, R.VIII Sant'Eustachio, R.IX Pigna, R.X Campitelli, R.XI Sant'Angelo, R.XII Ripa, R.XIII Trastevere, R.XV Esquilino, R.XVI Ludovisi, R.XVII Sallustiano, R.XVIII Castro Pretorio, R.XIX Celio, R.XX Testaccio e R.XXI San Saba.
Politics
Current allocation of seats in the Municipio I's parliamentary body as of the 2013 Rome municipal election:
- Democratic Party (PD) 9
- People of Freedom (PdL) 4
- Left Ecology Freedom 3
- Five Star Movement (M5S) 2
- Others 3
In June 2013 Sabrina Alfonsi (PD) was elected president. The current majority is formed by Democratic Party and Left Ecology Freedom.
Education
Public libraries include Casa della Memoria e della Storia in Trastevere, Casa delle Traduzioni in Rione Trevi, Centrale Ragazzi in Rione Regola, Enzo Tortora in Rione Testaccio, Rispoli in Rione Pigna, and Romana Sarti in Rione Trevi. In addition Biblioteche federate include Biblioteca della Scuola popolare di musica Testaccio in Testaccio, Biblioteca di Statistica di Roma Capitale in the Circus Maximus area, and Scaffale d'arte Palaexpo in Rione Monti.[2]
