Mike Reed (boxer)

Mike "Yes Indeed" Reed (born 12 January 1993) is an undefeated American professional boxer from Waldorf, Maryland. Reed campaigns in the super lightweight division and is promoted by Top Rank.^[2]

Amateur career

Reed was a decorated amateur, winning many National Championships. He won the 2005 National Silver Gloves Championship,^[3] the 2009 U.S. Junior National Championship,^[4] and the 2011 National Golden Gloves Championship.^[5] Reed finished second at the 2010 U.S. National Championships,^[6] third at the 2010 National PAL Championships,^[7] and fourth at the 2011 U.S. National Championships.^[8] Reed was named the 2011 Amateur Boxer of the Year by prominent boxing website Stiff Jab. Reed finished his illustrious amateur career with an impressive record of 90–13.

Professional career

He was named 2014 Prospect of the Year by world-renowned blog, Boxing Along the Beltway after a stellar year in which he went 6–0, 2 KOs, defeating two undefeated fighters and signing with the premier promotion in the sport, Top Rank.^[9] At the age of 23, Mike is a three-year pro. A blue-chip prospect at 140 pounds, Reed has stayed active in the ring and made good progress. He fought six times in 2013, six times in 2014, and five times in 2015. He has gone the full eight-round distance two times, and the full six-round distance five times. In his last fight on June 13 in New York, he scored a dominant UD win over Luis Joel Gonzalez. After the fight, Gabe Hiatt reported at the Washington Post [excerpts]: "All of our matchmakers feel he will be making a big mark on the sport of boxing," Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum said in a news conference. "Without much time passing, he will be appearing on the stage in a big televised fight on HBO, on our pay-per-view events or on TruTV. He is one of the brightest lights in boxing." Reed can move and flutter, but he is a banger, a power puncher. Soft-spoken and relaxed off the clock, Reed is confrontational and direct in the ring. For his 15th professional bout, Reed had a quick turnaround against Luis Joel Gonzalez on June 13 at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. Reed claimed a unanimous decision.
