Michael Shenton (born 22 July 1986 in Pontefract, West Yorkshire), is an English professional rugby league footballer currently playing for Castleford Tigers in the Super League. Shenton is the current captain of the club. An England international representative Centre, he previously played for the Castleford Tigers before moving to St. Helens in 2010. On 7 June 2012, Shenton re-joined the Tigers for the start of the 2013 season with still a year left at St Helens. Shenton agreed a new four-year deal with his home town club.[3] On 4 December 2012 he was unveiled as the new captain for the 2013 Super League season

Biography

Michael Shenton is a product for the Tigers Academy set up, beginning his professional career in 2004. Shenton was a member of the England Elite Training Squad as well, with his former Castleford Tigers team mate Joe Westerman (Who currently plays for Warrington Wolves) The 2010 Engage Super League season was Shentons last season with his home town club before signing a 3-year deal with St Helens RLFC on 3 August 2010.[3] He returned to the Tigers in 2013.

Spouse(s)

Shenton is married to Claire Moxon, who has been his partner for many years. Claire is a Mathematics teacher at Minsthorpe Community College. Shento's brother-in-law, Shawn Moxon works as a warehouse operative at Next Distribution.

Michael has two children, a girl and boy.

2004

Shenton made his Castleford Tigers Debut on 1 May 2004 in a 28 v 42 defeat by Wigan Warriors. That year he was also a member of the winning U18's Academy Grand Final Side that played against St. Helens.

2005

In 2005 Michael Shenton was establishing himself as a first team regular in the squad but it was on the wing and then as the season went on Shenton moved in to the centre of the side at the time. Tigers Head Coach David Woods said he was like NRL and Penrith Panthers Star Luke Lewis. Also in that Year Shenton played in the Northern Rail Cup Game final against Hull Kingston Rovers. Shenton also played in the National League Grand Final Match against Whitehaven Rugby League.

2006

2006 was another bad year for the Tigers but, it was a good year personal for Michael Shenton who showed a good account for himself and that he is Super League quality. Shenton got all the rugby league pundits talking about him after the Castleford Tigers 80th anniversary game (Sun 16 July Castleford 31 v Leeds 30). But at the end of Season Castleford Tigers was relegated and there were a lot of Super League clubs* chasing Shenton. (* Wakefield Wildcats, Hull FC)

2007

In 2007 saw Shenton stay loyal with his local town club. It was a Great Season for the Tigers and Shenton. Shenton was a Member of the National League 1 Dream Team of The Year, and was a member of the squad that won NL 1 Champions trophy (finishing 1st in the league). and then he was a member of The National League 1 Grand Final that won Cas promotion back to The Super League. but they was a lot of super league clubs* still chasing Shenton. 2008

In 2008 saw Shenton make his 100th appearances for the club and make he International debut against Wales as well.[4] Also Michael Shenton was called in to 2008 Rugby League World Cup train on squad but missed out on going to Australia. At Tigers end of the season awards Shenton won the Back of The Year.

2009

2009 showed Shenton grow as a senior player of the squad. Also 09 brings Shenton more international Caps of England. Shenton played in the mid-season international against France. He is in the 20-man squad to play against Wales RL in the end of season international. Shenton is in the Gillette 4 Nations 23 man squad for England.

At the Tigers end of Season awards Shenton won the Back of The Year again. He also won the Castleford Tigers Supporters Clubs Special Achievement Award.

2010 Last Season At Cas

2010 Shenton played in the mid-season international against France and scored his 1st England try. It was also Shenton last season with the Tigers. Michael Shenton Finished his Tigers career against his New Club St Helens RLFC, in their last league at Knowsley Road. Shenton was also the 2nd longest servicing Cas Player behind Tigers team mate Craig Huby.

2011 1st Season with St Helens RLFC

Signed for St Helens on a 3year Deal.[3] Shenton scored his first try for the club in a 56-22 win over Salford City Reds

2013-present Castleford Tigers

On 27 March 2014, Shenton scored the 100th try of his Castleford career in the 54-6 win over London Broncos.

On 7 February 2016, Shenton was on the receiving end of a reckless tackle by Hull KR's John Boudebza in the opening fixture of the Super League, in turn suffering damage to his anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL). At present it is a possibility he could be out for the remainder of the 2016 season.
