Matt Carthy (born 19 July 1977) is a Sinn Féin politician in Ireland, who has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Ireland's Midlands–North-West constituency since 2014. Originally from Roscommon, he now lives in Monaghan and was a member of Monaghan County Council from 2004 to 2014. Carthy was elected as an MEP at the European Parliament election in May 2014 with 114,727 first-preference votes.[1]
Carthy was first elected as a member of Carrickmacross Town Council in 1999, and has served terms as Mayor of both Carrickmacross and Monaghan.[2] He was a member of the Border Regional Authority.[3]
