Massasoit Police
The Massasoit Community College Police Department was established in 1966 at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Massachusetts, United States. The Massasoit Police Department primarily derives its law enforcement authority from Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 73, SECTION 18 (Board of Trustees & Board of Higher Education)and Chapter 15A, SECTION 22 as granted by the Commonwealths legislative branch. It is interesting to note however, that this state agency chooses to operate under Chapter 22C SECTION 63 (Special State Police Officer Warrant). This law exists for private institutions to operate security departments with limited police powers under the oversight of the Colonel of State Police. The Massasoit Community College Police Department performs a full range of law enforcement duties and community services expected in an urban campus environment. Retired Chief Alfred R. Shaw was a retired MSP Sergeant and former police chief in various municipalities, as well as a graduated of the FBI National Academy.
The Massasoit Community College Police Department provides police services across three of its campuses, Brockton, Canton, and Middleboro. The department consists of 1 Chief, 1 Captain, 3 Sergeants, 10 Patrolman, and 2 Dispatchers. The department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
