Mascoutah Community High School is a high school in Mascoutah, Illinois. Mascoutah High School (also seen MCHS or MHS) serves students grades 9 to 12 from the city of Mascoutah and surrounding areas, including parts of Belleville and Scott Air Force Base. A new high school building has been completed as of the 2011-2012 school year. The new high school accommodates major growth in the town since the 2000 census.[1] The new building provides a wide variety of new student opportunities, upgraded facilities, including new athletic fields, gymnasium facilities, and separate athletic and performing arts auditorium spaces. The school mascot is the "Indians".[2] School colors are purple and white, black also appears as an accent in many athletic uniforms.[3] Mascoutah was ranked a Top 100 Illinois High School in the most recent rankings (2009)[4]

Athletics

Mascoutah Students participate in athletics as a member of the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC). Conference membership includes Highland, Triad, Waterloo, Civic Memorial, and Jerseyville high schools. Mascoutah teams include:

Mascoutah has won multiple state champions in Poms including 2005, 2007, and 2010. Cheer leading has also placed at state. In recent years Men's soccer has won several MVC championships and has multiple victories in the St. Louis wide CYC tournament. The football team reemerged making several playoff runs.

Activities

Mascoutah hosts a variety of clubs, groups, and activities for students. A typical year includes a Fall Play and Spring Musical. Students can perform in the Marching Band, Concert Band, Colorguard/Winterguard, Chorus, and Show Choir. Service organizations include The National Honors Society and Beta Club. Future Farmers of America and Future Business Leaders of America are among professional interest clubs. The Model United Nations attracts dozens of student for several conferences throughout the year.

Traditions

Students participate in several traditions. There is a homecoming parade and competition between the classes each fall. Students also compete several times a year at pep rallies for "The Jug." The Jug is a large mason jar that is awarded to the classes that demonstrates the most school spirit and sings the loudest rendition of the fight song. The school nominates homecoming and prom courts. A winter dance is a newer tradition among students typically held in February. The "JUG" was actually stolen quite a few years ago.
