The Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup, also known as Piala Sumbangsih is the Malaysian super cup or the Malaysia Charity Shield. It is the curtain raiser match to the new Malaysian football season, pitting the reigning Malaysia Super League champions against the previous year’s winners of the Malaysia Cup.[1] The match the cup contested upon also known as Charity Match (Malay: Perlawanan Sumbangsih).
The fixture is ranked below the FA Cup and Malaysia Cup in terms of importance.
The current holders are JDT after defeating Selangor in 2016 Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup with the score 1–1, 7-6 on penalties.
History
The Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Cup was first held in 1985 which was contested between Selangor and Pahang where Selangor became the first winner with the score of 2-1.[2][3] The cup format has changed when during early days it was contested by the previous year winners of FA Cup against the Malaysia Cup winners and only recent years it has changed to be contested between the last year league winners against the Malaysia Cup winners.[3]
The cup which is Malaysia Charity Shield match act as the curtain raiser match to the new Malaysian football season, pitting the reigning Malaysia Super League champions against the previous year’s winners of the Malaysia Cup where in 2016 edition it also double as the first match of the league season where the match point was awarded.[1][4][5]
Records
- The most successful teams in the competition are Selangor (8 wins), Kuala Lumpur, Pahang, and Perak (3 wins).
- Johor Darul Ta'zim FC & Selangor MPPJ is the only team with club status to win the cup. Other team that have win the trophy is from state's team.

Merdeka Stadium was the original venues for the match before moving to Bukit Jalil Stadium in the recent years.
