Majumdar
Majumdar (also Mojumdar, Majumder, Mojumder, Mazumdar, Mozumdar, Mazumder, Mozumder, Majoomdar, Mojoomdar, Majoomder, Mojoomder, Mazoomdar, Mozoomdar, Mazoomder, Mozoomder, or Muzumdar) is a title used as a family name.
Majumdar Name Meaning
Indian (Assam and Bengal) and Bangladeshi: Hindu (several communities) and Muslim name meaning ‘record keeper’, ‘archivist’, from Arabic "majmua" (মজমুয়া) ‘collection’ + the Persian suffix "-dar"(দার) ‘possessor’. The surname has evolved from an official title.[1]
The title is found among Bengalis and should not be confused with the etymologically similar "মজুমদার ,"Mujumdar or Muzumdar, found among Maharashtrians, and to some extent among the peoples of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
