Mehm Thet San was a prominent ethnic Mon academic and civil servant, also known for his work in preserving Mon literature and culture.[1] Born in Kawhnat village in Moulmein Township, he was educated at the University of Illinois, where he earned a master's and doctorate degree in chemistry in 1955 and 1957 respectively.[1] Throughout his career, he served as the Ministry of Industry's vice minister and as a headmaster at Moulmein and Bassein Degree Colleges.[1]
He died on 10 October 2008 at his home in Mayangone Township, Yangon and was subsequently buried at Yayway Cemetery.[1]
