M. N. Ethiraj Vannar, better known as M. Ethirajulu (Tamil: எத்திராஜ் வண்ணார்) (19 September 1919 – 18 September 1970), was a leading figure in Salavaithozlilalar Sangam and the first Vannar member of the Madras Legislative Council. He is most memorable for his effort to associate the Vannar community with the Self-Respect Movement.

Early life

M. N. Ethiraj Vannar was born in Parangipettai, near Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu to Mr. Manickam and Mrs. Navammal. He became interested in the activities of his caste community and founded Salavaithozlilalar Sangam. He served as a member of the Madras Legislative Council for three terms between 1960 and 1970 as an Indian National Congress party representative, having previously worked as a supervisor for the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation,Ethiraj also participated in the Indian independence movement and was jailed by the British for his involvement. Death

He died on 18 September 1970 of a heart attack in Cuddalore.
