Acquisition by FLIR
The company is headquartered in Markham, Ontario, Canada, and in December 2012 was acquired by (and now operates as a subsidiary of) FLIR Systems, Inc for CAD$59 million.[4]
History
Lorex Technology, Inc. was founded by Bernard Klein in 1991 and purchased by Strategic Vista International in 1996. A subsidiary of Lorex, Digimerge, launched in 2003 to gain access to the commercial/professional security marketplace.[3] On December 20, 2012, FLIR Systems, Inc. a provider of thermal imaging cameras and systems, successfully completed the acquisition of Lorex Technology Inc.[5] Reuben Klein retired in 2013 with John Distelzweig succeeding him as the new Vice President and General Manager.
Products
Lorex provides video surveillance systems and equipment, including connected visible light video cameras, illuminated infrared cameras, DVRs / NVRs, video monitors, and baby monitors.[1][5]
Media Coverage
Santa Clara Jail
The company received notable media coverage when their security cameras captured an inmate brawl at a jail in California. After county officials told Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith that installing additional security cameras would take over two years and $20 million, she went out-of-pocket and purchased a Lorex security camera system, and was able to have it installed the night prior to the disturbance at the jail.[6][7][8][9]
