Lea Valley High School is a comprehensive mixed state secondary school in the London Borough of Enfield in North London. It became the first specialist sports college in Enfield in September 2002. In its bid for redesignation, it chose football as an additional subject. The current principal is Janet Cullen. The school was re-built in 2003 and work was finished in 2006. In January 2009 it was recognised as one of the top 30 improved schools in the country, at 24th place, with 67.4% of students achieving GCSEs grades A*-C and 5 good GCSE grades or equivalent including Maths and English. The school is also well known for its many trips organised within and out of Europe. One of their most outstanding trips was to Chicago from which many gained a lot of experience and teamwork.
Also, Lea Valley High School has responded quickly to the government requirements where, in late 2010 the government announced a new English Baccalaureate certificate would be awarded to students who achieved grades A*-C in English, Mathematics, two Sciences, a Foreign Language and History or Geography. The reason for its introduction was to combat the perceived fall in the number of students studying foreign languages and science. School league tables now take into account the percentage of students awarded this certificate. The school's flexible curriculum and approach to learning allowed them to support a large number of students achieving the English Baccalaureate.
