Lakeport Plantation is a historic antebellum plantation house near Lake Village, Arkansas and Greenville, Mississippi. Restored between 2003 and 2008, it is now a museum and Arkansas State University Heritage Site.
History
The mansion was built circa 1859 [2] for Lycurgus Johnson. It was designed in the Greek Revival architectural style.[3] The plantation boomed as cotton prices increased until the end of the Civil War, which freed the slaves on whom the plantation economy depended, and devastated the South.
