Lagos is a privately held American jewelry company. Founded by Steven Lagos in 1977, the brand is known for its jewelry craftsmanship and the proprietary design technique of textured caviar-like beading.[1] The company has offices in New York and Bangkok with its corporate headquarters in Philadelphia.[2]

LAGOS is sold in over 300 stores within the United States, including Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and independent jewelry retailers throughout the country.[3] The brand’s flagship boutique opened in 1994 on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[4][5]

History

Lagos jewelry was founded in 1977 by American artist and designer, Steven Lagos. At age 17, he met his mentor, a Russian jeweler, who taught him the importance of jewelry craft and technique.[6][7] It was then he began learning “the lessons of old world craftsmanship” and “the importance of working with the highest quality materials.”[8] Steven Lagos founded the company at age 20.[9]

Since 1977, LAGOS has created more than two million pieces.[10] Steven Lagos estimates that he has created 10,000 pieces and 400 to 500 new designs each year.[11]

Design

In 1984, Steven Lagos created the brand’s iconic design, textured sterling silver known as Caviar. This was inspired by the raw material of hematite.[12]

In 1986, LAGOS introduced sterling silver pieces accented by 18-karat gold, semi-precious gemstones and caviar-like beading. This collection brought together silver and gold in individual pieces for the first time in LAGOS history.[13][14]

Awards & Honors

In August 1999, Steven Lagos was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).[15]

Philanthropy

In May 2014, Steven Lagos was honored by the Keep Memory Alive Foundation in Las Vegas for his charitable contributions to their organization, which is dedicated to raising awareness, care and research for Alzheimer’s disease and brain disorders.[16]
