'Lady on the Rock' is a song written by Joe Vitale, Bill Szymczyk and Stephen Stills. The song was released in 1981 as a single from Vitale's second solo studio album, Plantation Harbor (1981). The track was titled "Lady on the Rock (It's America)" when it was released as a single with the title track as its B-side.
The track is a patriotic anthem about the Statue of Liberty, and how America is the land of the free.[1]
Towards the end of the song, you hear a telephone ringing and after hearing a woman talk to Vitale, Joe Walsh starts talking and says "Hey Joe, It's Joe, How are ya, Listen I got a part for your record, I just thinking I couldn't sleep all night, and I got this guitar part, I want you to hear it" then he talks further about the tuning of his guitar for the track and the song ends.
The song received some airplay in the US on album-oriented rock radio and became quite popular. This airplay pushed the single to number 47 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and helped the album Plantation Harbor chart.[2][3]
