The Korea Times Music Festival is an annual event held at the Hollywood Bowl in the United States.
Background
The festival was founded and organized by The Korea Times to give Korean Americans residing in southern California an opportunity to stay in touch with Korean culture. According to organizers, the annual event at the Hollywood Bowl is one of the largest music festivals held in Southern California and features some of the most well-known celebrities from South Korea's K-pop music industry.[1]
Attendance figures
The inaugural concert in 2003 sold out 18,000 seats within 14 days and subsequent shows in the following years have also sold out;[1] organizers noted that the number of non-Koreans attending the music festival has increased substantially.[1] According to The Korea Times, about 95 percent of the tickets sold in 2008 were purchased by non-Koreans, with many fans coming from all around the United States as well as from other Asian and European countries to attend the concert.[2]

This year, not only Korean Americans but also thousands of visitors from 10 Asian and European countries came to the venue to enjoy the music, while 95 percent of the tickets sold through the Internet Web site were purchased by non-Koreans. The enthusiasm proved that the Hallyu (Korean wave) was still alive, marking the event as one of the biggest cultural festivals in the L.A. area. Avid fans from Hawaii, San Francisco and San Diego also flew to Los Angeles to participate.
