Kamalapati Palace is situated on the bridge, between the larger and the smaller lake of Bhopal. It was built in 1722. This palace has been named after queen Kamlapati the widow of Nizam Shah Gond, Chief of Ginnorgarh. The Palace has been designated as a Monument of National Importance by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

History

Kamalapati Palace Lies on the eastern side of the Ancient embankment known as Bhojpal, built by the Parmara King Bhoj(AD 1010-1055) from which the present Name Bhopal is Derived.The existing structure is a part of the palace which was constructed by Rani Kamlapati,the widow of [[Nizam Shah]],General Chief of [[Ginnaur Garh]] in AD 1722. On the Western side of this palace one can see the remains of Fatehgarh Fort on the hill which was built by Sardar Dost Mohmmad Khan(AD 1708-1726) Who laid the foundation of modern [[Bhopal]]. Kamlapati palace is an excellent example of contemporary secular architecture of early eighteenth century and the earliest extant example in the Bhopal Town. This double storied building is constructed of lakhauri bricks having a beautiful facade with cusped arches supported on the fluted pillars, merlons having the shape of lotus petals and brackets supporting the Chhajjas.This monument was declared protected by the Government of India in 1989 and since then Archaeological Survey of India remains the custodian.

Rani Kamlapati Palace is Ancient Palace of Rani Kamlapati, ruler of Bhojpal i.e.Bhopal. Rani Kamlapati was the very beautiful wife of Nawal Shah, a Hindu Gond tribal warlord who had his capital in Ginnaur. In the 1710s, the area around the upper lake of Bhopal was mainly populated by the Bhil and the Gond tribals. In 1723, Rani Kamlapati committed suicide near her palace (present-day Kamla Park in Bhopal).
