Joseph "Joe" Veleno (born January 13, 2000) is a Canadian ice hockey player currently playing for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.

Playing Career

On June 4, 2015, Veleno became the first player from Quebec to be granted “exceptional status” to allowed him to play as a 15-year-old in major junior hockey,[1] and on June 7, 2015 he was taken 1st overall at QMJHL draft by the Saint John Sea Dogs.[2] He is the fifth player to be granted exceptional status, with the preceding four being John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid and Sean Day. Veleno began with a successful rookie season, scoring 43 point in 62 games playing primarily on the third line.[3]

Personal

As a young boy Veleno was a Washington Capitals fan and his favourite player was Alexander Ovechkin due to his goal scoring abilities. As he grew older Veleno transitioned to watching Jonathan Toews due to his abilities as a two-way centre, of whom he began to model his game after.[4]
