"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is a song by the American punk rock band the Ramones. Written by drummer Tommy Ramone, it was released in the US in 1976.[1] It was also released as the Ramones' second single, following up on "Blitzkrieg Bop."

Background

"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is the fourth track on the Ramones' debut album, Ramones. It was released in February 1976. The song was written around 1975, as Two Demos of the tune were made prior to the debut and single releases.

"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" was covered by Per Gessle in 2001 for The Song Ramones the Same, a tribute album for the late Joey Ramone. Screeching Weasel also covered the song on their Ramones (Screeching Weasel album), as did Pete Yorn on the compilation album We're A Happy Family: A Tribute to the Ramones.

Talking Heads covered the song in some of their early shows.
