"Happiness" is a song by English vocalist Robert Palmer. The song was released as the fifth and final single from the album Don't Explain in 1991.[1][2] The song was written solely by Palmer.[3]
Background
Released as the final single from the 1990 Don't Explain album, the track was commercially unsuccessful, failing to chart in the UK. The single was a minor hit in Germany, where it peaked at #62.[4]
The song's lyrics speak the message of taking chances in life and taking a chance on happiness.
Release
The single was released on 7" vinyl, 12" vinyl and CD in various European counties, including the UK. The single's b-side was a non-album track "All Shook Up", a cover of the 1957 hit song from American singer Elvis Presley, written by American songwriter Otis Blackwell and Presley.[5] The 7" vinyl uses the song's album version as the a-side.[5]
"Happiness" was produced by American jazz saxophonist, composer, and record producer Teo Macero, and co-produced by Palmer. The b-side "All Shook Up" was produced by Palmer.[3]
On the 12" vinyl, a "12" Remix" of "Happiness" was used as the main track, remixed by Carl McKintosh, with "All Shook Up" and "Happiness 7" Version" being the b-sides.[6] The UK CD version uses the same tracks as the 12" vinyl but in a different order.[7]
The song was later included on three of Palmer's compilations, the 2000 compilation "Premium Gold Collection", the 2000 compilation "Simply Irresistible", the 2008 compilation "Essential" and the 2011 compilation "Essential".[8]
Promotion
No promotional video was created for the single and limited promotion was given overall, with no TV performances of the song being broadcast either.
