Grandview Park Baptist School

Coordinates: 41°36′32″N 93°33′00″W / 41.609°N 93.550°W / 41.609; -93.550 Grandview Park Baptist School was a school located on the east side of Des Moines, Iowa, in the United States. It was a private church-based school serving the community. The school began in 1972 with 78 students in grades Kindergarten - 6th. The school quickly grew to over 530 students in grades Kindergarten - 12th grade. The schools team name was the "Defenders". Grandview offered a traditional style of education. Bible courses were taught at every level of the school and a Biblical world view was infused into every class. The junior high and high school participated in many sports opportunities. It had a very good American football program which in just its first six years made it to the state playoffs twice. It also had a very accomplished volleyball team which repeatedly went to the state tournament and were the 2002 Class 1A State Champions. Two Defender athletes have been honored from the teams as 1A Players of the Year.

Sports

Grades that were able to play sports: 7-12 Sports: Basketball, Football, Varsity Soccer, and Volleyball. The school was a member of the Bluegrass Conference.

Closing

The School ceased operation following the 2013 - 2014 school year due largely to the opening of Grand View Christian School.
