Grace Murray Hopper Park

Grace Murray Hopper Park is a small memorial park in Arlington, Virginia. It is located at 38.861351° N., 77.063432° W., on South Joyce Street on the grounds of Riverhouse, a high-rise community where she lived her later years. The park was originally funded by private sources, but in later years, it became an official park of Arlington County, Virginia. South Joyce Street is located just across the I-395 corridor into the District of Columbia, known as Shirley Highway, from the United States Department of Defense building, The Pentagon.

The park is named in honor of Grace Hopper, a computer scientist and naval officer. A pioneer in the field, she was the first programmer of the Mark I Calculator and developed the first compiler for a computer programming language.
