Get-A-Way
"Get-A-Way" is a famous Top-10 European hit single recorded by the popular 90's eurodance duo act known as MAXX. The single was released in October 1993 as MAXX's debut single. "Get-A-Way" became an instant dancefloor hit all over Europe, peaking at No. 11 in Germany,[1] and at No. 5 in the UK, Austria, Sweden and the Netherlands. The single also became a Top-10 hit in Switzerland and Norway.[2] "Get-A-Way" was later certified Gold in Germany for selling over 250,000,[3] and Silver in the UK for selling over 200,000 units.[4] By mid-1994, the single reached a total of 1.1 million in European commercial sales.[5]
Background
"Get-A-Way" originally featured vocals by rapper Gary Bokoe and singer Samira Besic. When the single became a Top-10 European hit, Besic was not re-hired by the producers to participate further in the act beyond recording vocals for the single. As a result, model-dancer Alice Montana was hired to lip-sync Besic's vocals for the accompanying music video.[6] Montana was also falsely promoted as the voice behind the single and was featured prominently on all of MAXX's early promotional material for the single.[7] Singer-songwriter Linda Meek was later discovered and brought into the act as Besic's official replacement early in 1994. Even though Meek did not originally sing "Get-A-Way" or appear in the music video for that song, many still associate her with it due to her powerful live covers of the song for MAXX's live TV appearances and MAXX concerts in the mid-'90s.
