Ganeden, Inc. is a privately held American probiotic ingredient manufacturer based in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Founded in 1997 in San Diego, California, the company produces patented probiotic and probiotic-derived ingredients for use in the food, beverage, companion animal and personal care industries.

History

Prior to 1997 scientist Sean Farmer identified a delivery system for lactic acid producing bacteria (LAB) that could be manufactured into a stable product that would deliver live bacteria. Ganeden was founded in 1997 in San Diego, California to market Farmer's LAB product and named Farmer as Chief Scientific Officer. The company's name, Ganeden, was derived from the Hebrew "Gan Eden", meaning Garden of Eden, where there was no disease.[1] The company moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 2000.[1]

In 2003 Ganeden launched a line of over-the-counter products under the brand names Digestive Advantage and Clearly Confident. the Digestive Advantage brand over-the-counter dietary supplement products were designed for the digestive and immune systems,[2][3][4] and Clearly Confident topical products were designed for nail fungus and Athlete’s foot. In 2006, Ganeden Labs formed Ganeden Inc. as Ganeden’s probiotic technological research and development laboratory in Miami, Florida. Over the next eight years, Ganeden introduced nine new products and sold nearly 400 million doses of its products through over 70,000 retail outlets. Ganeden sold most of its over-the-counter line of supplements to Schiff Nutrition International in mid-2011 and moved the Research, Development, and application laboratory to the headquarters.
