The Gainesville Independent School District is a public school district in Cooke County, Texas, Texas, United States, based in Gainesville, Texas. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.[2]
Recent Superintendents have been Dr. Jeffrey Brasher - 2011 - Current, William Gravitt - 2007-2011, Dr. Charles Luke - 2005-2007, Mike Rosenberg - 1998-2005 and Charlie Uselton - 1988-1993.

The Gainesville Independent School District has two elementary schools, one middle school, one intermediate school and one high school.
Elementary schools
- W.E. Chalmers Elementary School (Grades 2-4)
- Edison Elementary School (Grades PK-1)
Junior high schools
- Gainesville Junior High School (Grades 7-8)

- Robert E. Lee Intermediate School (Grades 5-6)
High school
- Gainesville High School (Grades 9-12)
Gainesville High School also serves students living in the Walnut Bend Independent School District, which does not have a high school of its own.
