The Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI; Chinese: 香港工業總會) is a business organisation for the industrial companies in Hong Kong established under the Federation of Hong Kong Industries Ordinance, Cap. 321 of the laws of Hong Kong, in 1960.[1]
History
It was set up on the foundation of the Advisory Committee set up by the government in 1958 and later developed into a Working Party in 1959. The Federation was officially established in 1960 and the chairman of the Working Party Chau Sik-nin was elected the first Chairman of the Federation.[2]
Since 1985, the Federation has its Legislative Council representative through the Industrial (First) functional constituency.
Objectives
The objectives of the Federation are:[1]
- to promote and foster the interests of Hong Kong's industrial and business communities
- to promote trade, investment, technological advancement, manpower development, and business opportunities in Hong Kong
- to represent business's views and advise the government on policies and legislation which affect business
The General Committee is the Federation's policy-making and management authority, while the Secretariat is responsible for policy implementation and day-to-day operations.
