Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School is a private Christian school located in Summerlin, Clark County, Nevada serving the Las Vegas Valley. Faith has students who come from 60 different zip codes. The school, which began in 1979, serves grades 6–12 and is affiliated with the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Faith Lutheran is the largest Lutheran school in the United States and the largest non-public school in the state of Nevada. Faith Lutheran is governed by a Board of Directors representing the thirteen Lutheran churches in its association.

Faith Lutheran's High School's graduates have been accepted into nearly 500 different colleges and universities in all 50 states in the past three years alone including such schools as Princeton, Stanford, Duke, NYU, Notre Dame, Cal Berkley, United States Air Force Academy, University of Michigan, Yale, and USC. Faith Lutheran's 4,541 solar panels on rooftops and covered parking for faculty and students provides 1.11 megawatts of clean energy to power the school.[1]

Extracurricular activities

Athletics

Faith Lutheran's athletics department, known as the Crusaders, are members of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Division 4A, the highest level of athletic competition in the state of Nevada. Faith has won 47 state championships in its proud history. Faith Lutheran athletic teams have also finished state runner up 34 times.

In 2016, Faith Lutheran was presented with the Greenspun Cup as the top southern Nevada high school in academics and athletics.

Mark 10:14 Program

The Mark 10:14 Program exists to "provide an excellent education for middle and high school students with intellectual disabilities in an inclusive Christian setting." The program helps provides students with intellectual disabilities with the same school experience and learning opportunities as non-disabled children.[3]

The name of the program comes from the Bible verse Mark 10:14, which reads "Jesus said to them, 'Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.' The program uses high school student mentors to help the Mark 10:14 students through school. The mentor program began in August 2009.

National Recognition

On March 7, 2012 students went to the chapel building to learn that their school won exemplary status by the Education Executive of the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS). Only seven schools out of 2,343 have received this award.[4]

Faith Lutheran has also been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for its leadership in 1:1 technology integration. Middle School students use iPads each day, and High School students use Macbooks.

Chapel service

During the school year both the middle school and high school worships once a week in chapel. The services are led by fellow students in a class called Applied Christianity. In the early years of the school, the service was held in the gym building, however a separate building dedicated to chapel and performances was built in 2008. This building is now called the Chapel and Performing Arts Center (commonly referred to as the CPAC). It holds school plays, worship services, school-wide presentations, and any other event requiring mass gathering of students. The CPAC seats 792 people and due to growth the middle school and high school each have two worship services. The entire student body worships together in the Arena on the first day of school and the last chapel in May.

Rachel's Challenge/Legacy

In 2011-2012, Faith Lutheran introduced a program called Rachel's Challenge. They asked students to sign a poster and accept the challenge. This poster was hung in the Student Center, where it still hangs today. In 2012-2013, they introduced the second half of the program known as Rachel's Legacy. They again asked students to sign a poster and accept the legacy. Just like the first, this poster was hung in the Student Center. Along with it, they hung two smaller posters containing the five points of each program which students are encouraged to follow.

Facilities and fields

Faith Lutheran contains a total of five permanent buildings, nine portable buildings, each containing two classrooms, and six sporting areas.

Main building

The main building is the largest building on the schools grounds and contains 33 classrooms including a robotics lab and two dance studios. It also contains the library, counselors' offices, the Finance Office, the Facilities Office, the main school office, and the administration offices. It is also home to the Mark 10:14 program. It has nine entrances and four main hallways. The main building is covered with solar panels.

George and Mae Kalb Student Center

The Student Center, more commonly referred to as the cafeteria, is where the school eats. Inside, there are four stations at which food can be served. The school uses a biometric system to identify the student and charge their account. Parents have web access to put money into their child's account and also see exactly what their son/daughter has purchased. This system was first used in the 2011-2012 school year. The Student Center also contains four class rooms, conference rooms, and a staff lounge. The Student Center doubles as a second gym after school.

Gyms

The gyms are the northernmost buildings of the school and contain a weight room, locker rooms, snack bar, athletic offices, classrooms, a trophy room, and two wrestling rooms. The two gyms are connected by The Tharaldson Hall of Champions. The northernmost gym is called The Arena; the southernmost gym is called The Gym.

Chapel and Performing Arts Center (CPAC)

The CPAC is where most performances take place. Every Wednesday, the "Applied Christianity" class performs a chapel service. The "Praise Band" plays worship music during chapel services. The CPAC also holds all the plays the school performs, as well as three classrooms. The CPAC also hosts a beautiful lobby which serves as a gallery for student artwork and larger gatherings.

Amphitheater

The Amphitheater is the center of campus and creates a beautiful park-like setting for the school.

The Shield

The Shield is the school store, which sells school uniforms, spirit wear, backpacks, iPad covers, etc. It is similar to a college bookstore and is located on campus. Special reserved 30 minute parking for The Shield is available.

Portables

The portables are a set of nine portable buildings which each contain two classrooms. They are next to the lockers.

Softball Field

The softball field is located on the west side of Faith's property and offers spectacular views of Red Rock Canyon. In a future phase of Build Faith, the softball field will be relocated to the south property.

Build Faith

Build Faith is an ongoing capital campaign to expand Faith Lutheran. The first phase was an $8.75 million effort to build a science lab, purchase ten acres of land directly south of its current campus, and build a second gym, which was dedicated on October 20, 2014. Groundbreaking for Phase 2 was held on January 30, 2015 and will include bathrooms, five classrooms, and a court room for our Justice & Advocacy Academy; this project opened at the beginning of the 2-15-2016 school year. Subsequent phases include the construction of a separate middle school building, a STEM building, additional parking, an aquatic center, tennis courts, office space, and the replacement of the portables with permanent classrooms. 10 additional classrooms are scheduled to be built by the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year.

On January 20, 2016 the Clark County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to vacate Homestretch Drive allowing Faith Lutheran to combine its 39 and 10 acre parcels into one contiguous campus in the future.
