Ewan Kirk (born 25 February 1961) is the CEO and co-founder of Cantab Capital Partners, a systematic hedge fund based in Cambridge, England.[1]

Early life and education

Kirk was born in Swindon, England and brought up in Glasgow, Scotland. He holds a PhD in General Relativity (Southampton), a B.Sc. in Natural Philosophy and Astronomy (Glasgow) and completed Part III of the Cambridge Mathematical Tripos at Queens' College, Cambridge.[2]

Early career

Kirk was previously partner-in-charge of Goldman Sachs' quantitative strategies group in Europe. This group of mathematicians, physicists and computer scientists were responsible for all of Goldman Sachs’ quantitative technology across commodities, currencies, interest rates, credit and equities. At Goldman Sachs, Kirk gained experience in derivatives, systematic trading and risk management.

Cantab Capital

Kirk’s fund Cantab manages $3.2bn, up from $30m at launch. It uses systematic computer models to trade in markets around the world.[3]

Hedge Fund Lions Den

In 2014 Kirk was featured as a Hedge Fund Lion in the web reality TV series Hedge Funds Lions Den. In the show two emerging managers had access to three of the industry's biggest names where the Lions impart their industry wisdom to the Emerging Managers.[4]

Personal life

Kirk is married with two daughters and lives in Cambridge. A fan of professional cycling, he owns and rides a replica of a bicycle design used by Lance Armstrong to win the Tour de France, along with a track cycle owned by Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Kirk and his wife operate a charitable foundation and have donated to a number of organisations, including The Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge.
