The Evolution Tower (Russian: Эволюция) is a skyscraper on plots 2 and 3 as part of the Moscow International Business Center in Moscow, Russia. In 2016 Transneft bought the Evolution Tower for $1 Billion.

Design

The tower was designed by RMJM along with Scottish artist Karen Forbes.[3] It looks like two ribbons twisting around each other. Each is twisted by 3° in relation to the preceding one, totalling 135°.[4] The design of the tower was inspired by pictures of the Cathedral of St. Vasily the Blessed, French sculptor Auguste Rodin's The Kiss and Tatlin's Tower.[5][6]

Construction of the tower began in 2011, and was completed in late 2014.

Nominations

Evolution Tower was nominated as a finalist for 'Best Tall Building in Europe' by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). A member of the CTBUH jury responsible for selecting the finalists, Anthony Wood was quoted as saying: "The world has seen an increasing number of twisting towers in the last decade or so, but Evolution Tower takes the record for the most extreme twist."[7]

Evolution Tower is the second place runner-up in Emporis Skyscraper Award 2015. It was recognized by the award jury for its expressive design. Each floor twists three degrees in relation to one below it. The tower has a rotation from the base to the top by more than 150 degrees. The extravagant design is inspired by St. Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow and Tatlin's Tower.[8]
