Erick Anthony Harris (born December 17, 1982) is a former gridiron football defensive back and linebacker.[1] He was signed by the Amarillo Dusters as a street free agent in 2005. He played college football at Liberty.
Harris was also a member of the Alabama Steeldogs, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Grand Rapids Rampage, Cleveland Gladiators \, Kansas City Command, Orlando Predators and Tampa Bay Storm.
College career
Led Liberty in receiving with 24 catches for 480 yards and three scores in 2002 as a sophomore. In 2003 Erick moved to the defensive side of the ball, he tied for a team-high three interceptions in both 2003 and 2004. He set a Conference record and became the first player in Big South history to return two punts for scores against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on November 6, 2004; receiving National Special Team Player of the Week.
Professional career
Harris began his professional career with the Amarillo Dusters of the af2 in 2005, played just two games for the Dusters, making 4.5 tackles and adding three catches for 31 yards. In 2006 he was with the Alabama Steeldogs where he played wide receiver/defensive back. In 14 regular-season games Erick totaled 25 receptions, 261 receiving yards, six receiving touchdowns, 41 tackles and one pass breakup. Led the Steeldogs with 26 kickoff returns for 426 yards.
Philadelphia Eagles
Briefly a member of the practice squad as a safety for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles in both the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Allocated by the Eagles to NFL Europa and the Amsterdam Admirals in 2007, where he logged two interceptions before returning to Philadelphia for training camp. Erick got cut at the end of training camp then called back to the team week 6 later released week 9.
Kansas City Chiefs
Signed to the Practice Squad on Dec 7, 2007 went through OTAs later released week before training camp.
Arena Football
In 2009 Erick signed with the Manchester Wolves on week 12, playing in 5 regular season games and 1 playoff game. During those 6 games, he had 3 interception, 2 for Touchdowns, 4 pass break-ups and recorded 30 tackles. He began 2010 with the Cleveland Gladiators; he went through training camp, but got released at week 4 due to quad injury. In 2011 as a member of the Kansas City Command Erick split time at Defensive and Jack Linebacker. He played 10 out of 18 games, combined for 25 tackles, 5 pass break-ups, 1 interception and fumble recovery for a touchdown. In his last and final season Erick signed to the Orlando Predators in 2012. He played and started the last 6 games of the season at Jack Linebacker, he recorded 30 tackles, 2 pass break-ups, 2 fumble recoveries, and an interception.
