Emerald railway station is located on the Central Western line in Queensland, Australia, serving the town of Emerald.
History
Emerald station opened on 19 May 1879 as the interim terminus of the Central Western line when it was extended from Comet. The line was extended to Withersfield on 20 October 1880.[1][2]
In 1884, it became a junction station with a branch line built to Clermont and another to Springsure in 1887. As such it gained a locomotive depot and grew to become a major regional centre. In 1900, a new station was built and in 1926 an additional engine shed was built.[1]
In 1972, the station building was listed by the National Trust. The railway refreshment room closed in May 1985. The station building was refurbished in February 1986, with the former refreshment rooms being used as offices. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.[1]
