Elena Puw Morgan (1900–1973) was a Welsh writer who won the Literary Medal at the Cardiff National Eisteddfod in 1938

Life

Morgan was born in 1900 and lived her life in Corwen in Wales. She won the Literary Medal at the National Eisteddfod in Cardiff in 1938 for her novel Y Graith (The Scar). She was the first woman to be given this honour. Y Graith tells of the book's heroine as she struggles with cruelty and poverty at the start of the twentieth century.[1] Morgan published a number of children's books in Welsh between the two World wars.

The book Y Graith was updated and republished by her daughter Catrin Puw Davies in 2000.
