El Mergis (Af Soomaali Ceel Merjis) is small pastoralist village in southern Gedo Region in Somalia - about 258 mi (or 416 km) West of Mogadishu, the seat of the Somali government.

El Mergis is on the west side of Juba River. Near by towns in the same Bardera District are Gantamaa, Faafxadhuun and Dag Mareer are places relatively short distance away. Village coordinates are 2°0'0" N and 41°36'0" E.

The closest airport is Bardera Airport with a distance of 56.1 mi (or 90.3 km) north-east of the centre of El Mergis. There are numerous villages in Bardera District from all around Bardera City and most lay down south towards Anoole and Hareeri east of Juba River while west side has less villages and main ones are Fafahdhun, El Mergis and Uar Esgudud.

On the further down south, there is Uar Esgudud village about 50 km towards Afmadow in Lower Juba Region and further down south 100KM from Afmadow will be Kismayo. Uar Esgudud are where Gedo, Middle Juba and Lower Jubba meet.

Between Bardera and Sakow, Much of the land Grazing Area

Between Bardera District, Gedo and Sakow District of Middle Juba, about 120KM between two district seat cities, the land is primarily used by pastororal herders who look after camels going between Gedo mountainous areas to Jilib forests during dry season. Population in the area is scattered and less 1000 people.

Between El Mergis and Anoole, on the east side of the Juba River, one can get there by wooden boats on the river operated by river bank farmers. From the river crossing area, Anoole and Hareeri about 40KM. These two villages are furthermost villages in southeastern Gedo.
