Donetsk Railway station is a railway station in Donetsk, Ukraine.

History

During the World War II the old station building was destroyed. In 1951 architect Vorontsov built a new station building. The monumental building has a traditional Central axial diagram of the spatial organization. Central to the spatial organization is the lobby, which dominates in the overall composition of the building. The station square was built in the 1960s.

The station is home to the Museum of the history and development of Donetsk Railway, which was opened on 4 August 2000 the 130th anniversary of the Donetsk Railway. On the forecourt at the station built a gleaming gold, consecrated in late 2011, the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas. In connection with carrying out in Donetsk the UEFA European Football Championship 2012 the station building was reconstructed and expanded and built a new building of modern "urban" architecture.

21 May 2012 a new building was commissioned. the New complex consists of a main, commuter and transit stations, two shopping malls, two concourse and the new bus station. The pedestrian bridge became indoor and with escalators. In addition completely changed the infrastructure of the entire station is laid 15.8 km of new paths, 83 new switches, installed 417 support contact network, installed 28.15 km contactless network, upgraded 21 wind arrow.[2]

There are about 200 of the lights, laid about 25 km of cable, 12 km of new transmission lines, upgraded two transformer substations and installed two new ones. New high-rise building of the railway station complex shared passenger traffic, separating passengers long-haul passengers from trains.

In 2014 due to the War in Donbass, Donetsk station building was damaged.[3]

Trains

There are no long-distance trains, that either pass or terminate at Donetsk, because of the war and ongoing conflict situation. Only 4 trains that are operated by Donetsk People's Republic's separatists pass the station:[4]
