Don't Blow the Inheritance was a 5:00pm daytime quiz show that aired on ITV from 20 to 31 August 2012 for a 10 episode run[1][2][3] as a summer replacement for The Chase the other being Tipping Point. It was hosted by stand-up comedian Tim Vine.
Format
In every show, four pairs of contestants each made up of one senior contestant and a younger relative battle it out to build up an inheritance fund. Over three knockout rounds the seniors battle it out to be the last one standing so their younger team mate has a chance to win the fund in the final round.
Round One (Questions requiring answers)
The offspring must press their buzzer if they think their senior will know the answer to general knowledge questions asked by the host. For each correct answer, £1,000 is awarded, but if they answer incorrectly, the other three teams get £1,000 each. Fifteen questions are asked in this round. The couple with the least amount of money will be eliminated from this round. If two couples are tied for third place, three couples are tied for second place, or all four couples are tied for first place, a sudden death question is asked on the buzzer. If a couple answers correctly, they move on to the next round but if they answer incorrectly, they are eliminated.
Round Two (Top 10s)
One by one, each couple will choose one of four categories where the senior must guess the top 10 most popular answers to a given question in 30 seconds, each correct answer that appears on the board will win them £1,000, however, if they get all ten answers, they will win £10,000 for the inheritance fund. The couple with the least amount of money will be eliminated from this round. As before, if two couples are tied for second place or all three couples are tied for first place, a sudden death question is asked.
The Semi-Final (Clues)
A clue is given, if the offspring thinks that their senior will know the answer, they can press their buzzer. If neither of the players think their senior will know the answer, they will wait for another clue. Then, if they still don't press it, the third and final clue will be given by the host. Every correct answer is worth £1,000, but a wrong answer would automatically give the other team £1,000. Ten questions are asked in this round. The couple with the most money at the end of this round goes through and plays for the inheritance fund. Again, if both couples are tied for first place, a sudden death question is asked.
The Final Round (Rule Reversal)
In this round, the senior's hard work is over and the offspring must answer five questions correctly (without a time limit) to win the full amount that they won in the game. However, as soon as a wrong answer is given, the money will slowly count down until five answers are correct. Then, the offspring will take home any money that is left in the Inheritance fund. The most that the offspring can win is £35,000.
