Disco Shanti is an Indian film actress and an "item song dancer" who worked predominantly in South Indian cinema. Shanti has also worked in several Hindi language movies apart from appearing in movies made in other Indian regional languages. She was noticed mainly for her erotic roles and mainly appeared for item numbers in songs. Shanti was also introduced as a heroine in several Tamil movies. She was not successful as an actress and hence she turned to be an item girl again. She has appeared / acted in over four dozen movies.
Personal life
Disco Shanti is the daughter of Tamil actor "Vijayapuri Veeran" C.L Anandan. She has a younger sister actress Lalitha Kumari. She married Telugu actor Sri Hari in 1996[3] and stopped working in movies.[1][4] Her husband Mr. Srihari, who had been suffering from a liver ailment for some time, complained of giddiness during the shooting of ‘Rambo Rajkumar’ being directed by Prabhu Deva with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. He was rushed to a hospital where he died later.[5]

In 2011, the Hindi language movie, The Dirty Picture was made. This movie was inspired primarily by the life of actress Silk Smitha, but also used some elements from the life of Disco Shanti. The film stars Vidya Balan who plays the lead role along with Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi.[6]
