Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School is a college preparatory school in the Cristo Rey Network of schools with work-study integrated into its program.
History
Cristo Rey Atlanta opened in 2014 under the auspices of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in midtown Atlanta, in a three-storey building which formerly served as the chancery building for the Archdiocese of Atlanta. It is located across from a metro transit station, accessible to students from throughout the Atlanta area. Students spend five days each month working in the corporate world, which pays for most of their tuition. [2]
Academics
To compensate for time spent away in the Corporate Work Study Program, the school day runs from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. In the academic program, each graduate will have earned: four units of English language arts, mathematics, science, and religious studies; three units of social studies, and world languages; two units of either physical education, technology, senior project, visual/performing arts, or other academic disciplines.[3]
The dress code requires white shirt/blouse and grey trousers/skirt, usually accompanied with the striped gold and black tie. A grey/blue sweater or blazer is also required during the winter months.
Activities & sports
Activities and sports must not interfere with a student's commitment to academics or corporate work assignment. Students volunteer with organizations such as Red Cross, Big Brother/Big Sister, and Habitat for Humanity. Other activities include:[4]
