CONAKAT

Confédération des associations tribales du Katanga or CONAKAT, was one of the three main political parties in the Belgian Congo and was led by the pro-Western regionalist Moïse Tsjombe and his interior minister Godefroid Munongo.

History

The party was started in the 1950s by Moïse Tshombe and Godefroid Munongo. The party believed that the mineral riches of Katanga should be exclusively for the "authentic" ethnic Katangese.[1]
