Cleveland Circle is a surface light rail station on the MBTA Green Line "C" Branch, located in Brighton, Massachusetts at Cleveland Circle. Cleveland Circle station is handicapped accessible, with raised platforms to accommodate low-floor trams.

History

PCC streetcars at Cleveland Circle in 1951

The Beacon Street line opened in 1889; most streetcars ran through Cleveland Circle to Lake Street, with some terminating at the Chestnut Hill Carhouse (renamed Reservoir Carhouse around 1900).

Around 1932 – likely in conjunction with the opening of Kenmore and the new portal to Beacon Street, the 61 Lake Street-Lechmere via Beacon Street route was cut back to Reservoir, at the Reservoir Carhouse. Around 1947, the terminus was redesignated Cleveland Circle after the adjacent traffic circle, to differentiate it from the nearby commuter rail station – which a decade later would become a streetcar station itself. Although Cleveland Circle is no longer a traffic circle, the station retains its name.

In May 2007, the MBTA opened a wooden "mini-high" ramp on the outbound side at Cleveland Circle. The platform allows wheelchair-using passengers to deboard from high-floor streetcars at the stop.[2] Raised low platforms, previously installed around 2002, make the station accessible for all users with low-floor streetcars.
