Center on Global Energy Policy
The Center on Global Energy Policy is a research center located within the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.[1] The center's director is Jason Bordoff.[2]
Mission
The Center on Global Energy Policy mission is to improve the quality of energy policy and energy dialogue through objective, balanced and rigorous analysis.[3]
Its vision is to be among the world’s most respected, trusted and influential sources of energy policy analysis.[4]
History
On April 24, 2013 the Center for Global Energy Policy was founded within Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. The launch event filled Columbia's historic Low Library where mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke about how “New York is where the energy future is taking place”.[5] The Director, Jason Bordoff, a professor of professional practice and a former special assistant to President Barack Obama, CC '83, said he hoped that the center will break new ground in energy research.[6] It has since done exactly that - since it's inaugural event three years ago it has published more than 30 reports on international issues at a world-recognized caliber on topics. The Center has published pieces on energy geopolitics, climate change, financial markets, electric grids, and much more.[7]
In December 2014 the Center broke ground on their new office building. With almost 7,000 square feet of workspace, the Center has been expanding and growing at a rapid rate ever since.[8] As the full-time staff grows, both in their office on Amsterdam Ave and across North America, Europe, and Asia. Columbia's Global Centers provide international support for the Center's global team as the Center has grown to be a true global leader in energy policy.
