Buddleja davidii 'Harlequin' originated as a sport of 'Royal Red', and has been in cultivation since 1964. [1] [2]

Description

'Harlequin' is distinguished by its variegated foliage, the leaves imbued with creamy-white margins contrasting with the panicles, 15–20 cm long, of reddish - purple flowers. The shrub grows to an average height of 2.0 m . [3]

Cultivation

'Harlequin' is well established on both sides of the Atlantic, although it has become less popular in the USA in recent years owing to its susceptibility to mites, leading to its withdrawal from sale by many nurseries. The plant also suffers from reversion, where non-variegated shoots emerge; these shoots should be removed immediately, with care taken to include the dormant buds on the stem. Hardiness: USDA zones 7–9. [4]
