Brian Shaw, CFA, is a financial industry executive with particular expertise in capital market and investing activities, and is a private investor and corporate advisor.[1] He was the Chairman and CEO of CIBC World Markets[2] from 2005 through 2008 and prior to that managed the Global Equities Division for a number of years.[3][4] He is currently a Corporate Director for Encana Corporation, as well as NuVista Energy Ltd. (an oil and gas resource company), Manulife Bank of Canada (a private chartered bank), Manulife Trust Company (a private trust company) and Ivey Canadian Exploration Ltd. (a private exploration company).[5][6]

Early career

He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Alberta[7] in 1977.[8] He joined [Wood Gundy] in 1985 and held a series of management positions in Institutional Equities [9] and served as its Head of the division since 1997. Mr. Shaw served as Vice President at Wood Gundy since 1989[10] and he served as its Director since 1992. In 2001, under his leadership, the US Equities Division (formerly, Oppenheimer) was merged with Institutional Equities. Mr. Shaw was also employed in an investment capacity with a Canadian Chartered Bank.[11]
