Brian Arthur Gomm, born at Castle Cary, Somerset on 24 June 1918 and died at Peterborough on 23 April 1995, was a cricketer who played two first-class matches for Somerset in 1939.[1]
Gomm batted at No 8 in the first Somerset innings of the match against Essex at Wells, and at No 4 in the second innings. In a very low-scoring game, in which Somerset's two innings only totalled 123 runs, he made 0 and 5.[2] In Somerset's next match, against Northamptonshire at Northampton, Gomm batted at No 9 and scored 2, but was not called upon in the second innings. He bowled three eight-ball overs without success.[3] He batted right-handed, and bowled left-arm medium pace.
In 1949 and 1950, he played in non-first-class matches for The Army as a batsman only, scoring 84 in one innings against the Royal Air Force at Lord's.[4]
Military career
Gomm was listed in the London Gazette in 1941 as a second lieutenant with the Indian Armoured Corps in the Indian Army.[5] He was transferred in 1942 to the Royal Corps of Signals.[6] He remained with the Royal Corps of Signals into postwar peacetime and eventually retired with the rank of Major in 1955.[7]
